I do think the way it should work is, if a person put effort into making content and they put it behind a paywall, then they should be paid if it is needed for training.

If a person puts content out for anyone to read, then that content can be used to train a model because, for example, Brian reads my article, he tells Karen, she writes an article, the article gets scraped for training.

Us humes share info for free all the time and use it to inform our thinking and actions.

That the LLM's might use the same resource for their training makes sense to me that it need not be a paid thing.

So my words in a book that I'm trying to sell shouldn't be used for training.
